Why ipod freezes

BTW-I have reset and restored a few times prior to this. Hopefully replacing the HD will be the right place to start!

I went ahead and ordered a new hard drive tonight, as, when it was resetting, I could hear some crunching sounds--which also tells me it's the hard drive. I had never heard of the diagnostics mode before--thanks again for the help.

Restart your computer after the updates are finished installing. Open iTunes and then connect your iPod to your computer to see if iTunes still freezes up. Open iTunes. Click "Help" in the upper-left hand corner and then click "Check for Updates" to check for an iTunes software update.
