Bit-o-Honey has also spawned a short-lived variation called Bit-O-Chocolate, that first was marketed in the mids. Over the years it became popular throughout the country. Bit-O-Honey has come out with several commercials on television advertising bit of honey to consumers. An early commercial for Bit-O-Honey from the s shows a man on a sunlit beach, playing the guitar and singing about Bit-O-Honey.
As he sang about the multiple pieces of honey that came with it, several people danced around him, mostly girls. The idea of the commercial was to focus on what Bit-o-Honey contained, its mood, and its quality. The commercial also showed Bit-o-Peanut Butter at the end of the commercial as well. In Bit-O-Honey released a commercial with a circus act in it. The ring leader introduced a jumper to the crowd at the start of the commercial.
The jumper was afraid to jump, so he said he would take the plunge as soon as he was done eating his Bit-O-Honey. The idea behind the commercial was to highlight how Bit-O-Honey lasted a long time, due to the six-piece that it came with.
The marketing strategy behind the Bit o honey commercials is similar to the Marathon Bar. Both of these snacks like to highlight how long they lasted in most of their advertisements and commercials. Perhaps because to highlight how good of deal customers were getting, and even important aspect of sales in the past then it is today.
There are many grandparents who keep their coupon saving habits of the past that can attest to that, and it sure comes in handy for saving some cash. Bit-O-Honey can be hard to find in stores at times, with other snacks often taking space on the shelves. But there are some locations that sell it. You can check out our list of stores that sell Bit-o-Honey below.
As an alternative, you can also buy Bit-o-Honey online. The Bit-O-Honey bumblebee, of course! This guy has been adorning Bit-O-Honey wrappers for over 30 years! But while this classic treat has been shuffled around quite a bit in its day, you can bet that the Bit-O-Honey you bite into now is just as good as the original. During — , a chocolate version bit-o-honey was on the market.
It appeared to have sold very well. Is it still available? If so, where may it be found? We sat around eating and popping these little nuggets…we are addicted to them. There are no nuts in them anymore!!! We were extremely disappointed. We believe after eating 2 pounds of the candy, that the company is trying to save money and have stopped putting in the right amount of almonds to them. They are softer and darker in color and had no discernable almonds at all.
Back to Mary Janes at Walgreens. My husband got me addicted to these. Says they are a good way to curb your appetite! Forgot about that excuse. Anyhow, I have a tip. Of course, you can eat them faster that way. Good hunting! They are delicious!! Thanks for the memories! Glad to see so many others like Bit- o- Honey. The thing I wonder about in terms of change in the candy is the first ingredient is now high fructose corn syrup.
At some point this must not have been so. I got addicted to Bit-O-Honey on a recent trip to the U. Does anyone know if these are available in Canada? The bars sound good! Does anyone remember the Bit-O-Honey commercial with the psycadelic animation and the jingle"six chewy pieces, are six times the fun. What joy!! I love Bit O Honey candy. My little silver poodle Hobie also loves them.
Hobie is a very fussy eater and will turn his little nose up at everything except Bit O Honey. He will even get fistie if he thinks there is competition for his pieces 0f Bit O Honey. Like us human types our animal friends will surprise us with their little preferences.
Glad I found this site! I absolutely love Bit-O-Honey. I am eating them now as I type this, as I do ever night! A few months ago I found a midsized candy distributor for upstate NY that was going out of business. It is hard to store that much candy in a residential home let alone a 1 bedroom apartment in BX as pests and moisture become serious issues but I am eating them up pretty regularly.
Oh my.. Okay so I found some of these at a dollar store when I was searching for vanilla tootsie rolls. They taste different now.. When I was a kid they had pieces of nuts in them; they had a different consistency. I found a covered knife that has an ad on it that says Bit-O Honey.
Louis1, Mo. Any idea what it is worth?? Take them out of the wrapper about 12 pcs. Put them in a bowl and microwave for ONLY 7 secs!
Flip them over and do another 7 secs! If everyone would try this just once, bit o honey sales would dbl over night! Be really carefull not to leave too long in microwave or they will get too hot to eat. Dont even try or you will burn your mouth! Love Bit O Honeys!
I found this website while I was looking for a recipe to make BOH. And I am eager to make them with almonds and the butter nuts! Love the bars and individual pieces especially when I drink hot coffee or tea. BOH-they make me happy! Brian Star, there is a story in my family as well that my great-grandfather invented Bit-o-Honey as well and then sold the recipe for way too little money. Not sure of the exact time frame since everyone who might have known has passes on. I do know it would have been in the Boston, MA area around the turn of the 20th century.
Bit-o-honey fans, go to your farm stores. Fleet farm just had 16 oz bags 3. Here is the good news! Go to target and look on the end caps at the check out lanes, also in their candy section. Still trying to find out the original recipe. Lots of jocks swimmers swear by these things. What a great site! I can only find the little ones at 1 of the dollar stores.
